Cycling is one of the greatest passions of my life. After two and a half decades of serious to competitive level cycling, the many pleasures and benefits have become an integral and irreplaceable part of my world. During both on-road, and off-road biking, I have had my share of mishaps, training problems, successes, and thrills. My tendency to push the limits of myself or my equipment has led at times to needing to recover from pain, and even injury. The joy of being able to return to my top performance can never come soon enough. Trying to more fully recover from these injuries is what led me to learn how to heal myself to the level I was looking for. Helping other athletes recover and heal has now become a great drive of my life.
I most frequently work with athletes involved in cycling, yoga, and runners, but also work with athletes from many other sports, such as weight lifting, martial arts, snow sports, swimming, and surfing for example. . My clients regularly find rapid and long-lasting relief from injuries or limitations, with marked improvement in their training and performance.
Athletes frequently have two objectives when seeking bodywork. Many are aware of the benefits of maintenance to the training recovery process available through sports massage. Others are trying to find help with problems stemming from an injury or limitation
Only a few seem to be aware that even what they consider good performance might be increased with skilled application of the right bodywork modalities.
Improving Performance- I have developed effective methods to help my clients find new levels of performance. Beyond recovering from a decrease in potential, it is actually possible to improve upon the performance they have known. The nature of this work varies with the individual according to what they are trying to gain, as well as their personal history. With these methods, my clients have attained flexibility, power, endurance, and control they have not been able to access, or have thought beyond their reach. Often these clients are surprised to find out what their true potentials really are.
The human body is a complex system of interactive and interdependent functions. These functions are governed by, among other things, a constant interpretation of the body’s condition, as well as the body’s stored memory. As complicated as all this may seem, analyzing and treating/altering these controlling codes is possible. When the entire body works together seamlessly without miscommunication or conflict, your true potential can become available to you.
Whether you wish you could just get further into that yoga pose, have more power and control, be faster, or have more endurance, I would like to help you achieve that goal.
Recovery- I am also pleased to be able to help athletes with their recovery from several different types of injuries or limitations. Problems may begin with an accident, overtraining, or competitive stress. In other cases, old injuries or limitations have persisted in their lives for months or years with little to no improvement. Athletes who find their performance either suddenly or chronically impaired are often unsure as to the true extent of the problem, or have not been able to find complete relief. As a long time cyclist with my own history of injuries, I understand how troubling this can be. Proper identification of the problem followed by a very specific treatment plan often restores my clients to their former healthy condition and performance levels. Treatments normally begin with pain relief, followed by resetting the body to its normal healthy functioning levels, (Body Restoration).
Maintenance- Sports massage is an important part of many athletes training and maintenance regimens. Pre-event work is proven to reduce the likelihood of injury and boost event performance, while post-event sessions are known to speed the recovery process. Aside from these, ongoing maintenance is an important part of any serious athlete’s self-care regimen.
